My Dearest Friend: Letters of Abigail and John Adams
"Love sweetens Life, and Life sometimes
destroys Love. Beauty is desirable and Deformity Detestable;
Therefore Beauty is not Deformity nor Deformity, Beauty"(5)

The reason i chose this quote is because it shows
that conquers all and sometimes even one's life.
The fact that someone can be overpowered by love
makes them an easy target for destruction.
Beauty is something that is truly in the eye of the beholder and deformity is also in the eye of the beholder
" Patience my Dear! Learn to Conquer your Appetites
and Passions! Know thyself, came down from Heaven,
and Government of ones own soul requires greater
Parts and Virtues than the Management of Kingdoms,
and the Conquest of the disorderly rebellious Principles
in our Nature, is more glorious than the acquisition of Universal Domain."(5-6)

During John Adams' Presidency he faced many challenges in office
and his very words to his Dear Abigail show that he was a man of patience.
He did his work as he saw necessary and accomplished his tasks day by day. He went about his day to day tasks in a calm manner and never panicked when something
went wrong. He knew that to be successful one had to control his own self before ruling over others and governing a Nation.
" Alass! How many snow banks devide thee and me
and my warmest wishes to see thee wil not melt on of them.
I have not heard one word from thee, or our Little ones since
I left home. I did not take any cole comeing down, and find myself in better Health than i was. I wish to hear the same account from you." (27)

Not being with the person who you have started a family with can be extremely stressful! The fact that John and Abigail
were able to keep a family and a relationship composed of love in times when John was
away for many months is an amazing achievement. They proved that even though there were many miles of distance between hem loves prevailed and they died happily.
" I am more and more convinced that Man is a Dangerous creature,
and that power whether vested in many or a few is ever grasping,
and like th egrave cries give, give, the great fish swallow up the small, and he who is most strenuous for the Rights of the people, when vested with power, is as eager after the perogatives of Government." (89)

John Adams realized that human nature is a powerful thing. When a man comes into power he has the choice on how he wants to exercise his power. He can use excessive power and force his point across and make it so people do not like that man, or he can put his opinion out there for all people to look at in order to get his point across.
" Yesterday completed Eight months sin you left me.
When shall i see you. I often dream of you, but the other Night i was very unhappy. Methought you
was returned but met me so Coldly that my Heart ackd half an hour after i waked. It would ake in earnest if I once realizd Such a reception, and yet if I had a Friend whom I cared little or nothing about, I should be saved
many anxious hour, yet i would not be destitue of the tender Solisitude, notwithstanding all the pain it costs me." (195)

Abigail Adams went many years without her
husband by her side the whole time. It is difficult for any
woman to manage a house hold and it is even harder when your husband is off doing work with the Government. Abigail
missed her husband so very much and i can relate to that. Not seeing members of your family for long periods of time tend to make one very sad, especially if it is someone like your husband. The fact that a relationship was sustained between the two is an amazing thing and the fact that
Abigail could wake from such a horrible dream and not have her husband by her side makes this quote meaningful. You aren;t always goign to have someone by your side and Abigail shows us that it is possible to get through the hardships with out someone always there.
The time period in which Abigail and Jonh lived was a tough time for America and for relationships. John and Abigail found eachother at young age and they knew that they were meant for eachother. Through all the struggles the United States went through Abigail stood beside John. They are one of the greatest American couples. I learned that their time period of living consisted of trust and communication, similar to ours today. Today we can simply send a text message and hear back from a person in a matter of minutes, however Abigail and John sent letters that took weeks to reach the other person. I learned that the hard work and dedication of John Adams produced aqn America which benefitted our generation today. His wife stood beswide him and as first lady she followed a standard that has been upheld since. Their relationship with eqachother and with the United States made them a great team. I learned that all the work they did was to benefit eachother, there was no competition between them. That is why they are one of the greatest American couples of all time.
