.

But its a matter of how that emotion is fostered
and whether the result is real or false emotion...Real emotion is
built up over time and its foundation is preparation.(272)

He said this since he was not on of the coaches who rushed and screamed at the field he stayed calm.He thought him being so emotional at field would demoralize his players and demotivate them. With him being calm he gave them self-confidence and showed them he knew what he was doing what is really important for a leader no matter in what.If he would have been really emotional they players would have been too. That would have made them play extremly well for only a short period and then get much worse and finally end up losing.he wanted them to be consistant.

I never could do that without
maintaining a measure of personal distance.(275)

Here he talks about his relationship to his players and how he would have liked to have friendships with a couple of them but never had one because he thought it would make their job and his more difficult. He didnt want to sympatize with some of them more than others that would have made him making decisions about cutting off players unfair. This shows how much he loved his job and how much he dedicated himself to being a coach and that he did everything to be a good coach.
To get
people to do what they dont want to do in order to achieve what
they want to achieve.(286)

This is what he said about the job of a coach and how hard it actually is to be a good coach because you have to motivate your players to do something they dont really want to do in order to reach their aims.As
Most successful players not only accept rules and limitatons, i believe they need
them.You cant enjoy freedom
without limits.(276)

He talked about his opinion about freedom and rules and that you need both equally to become a good player but also a good person. If for example a talented player wouldnt no his limits he wouldnt be in the team for long because he would be selfish and wouldnt think about the others. He thought that one thing alone wont make anybody happy. He saw this also as a important thing in life even as a biblical principle. This is the base to be a good teamplayer and to lve together in freedom with other peolpe and to be a good person and not being concentrated only on your own.
A leader doesnt have to be the smartest member of a group, but he does need to demonstrate a mastery of his field.(280)

This quote he was talking about himself not being the best athlet but having a great knowledge. That gave him the ability to know what was going to happen next.He earned the authority to establish his leadership in this way.By mastery he meant more than just knowing information an facts rather the understanding of the informations and the ability to apply that information. It shows that you can reach everything if you work for it.He studyed hard to get the required respect of the players and knowledge he needed, but he reaches it.
By reading his book and working on this project i learned a lot about the time he grew up.His family and church was important for him and served as filters for the basic values he learned as a boy.But it was sports that shaped and reinforced those values. The lack of parental involvement in that time in their recreational activities helped them to develop independence;leadership and initiative. The Hispanic population was divided from the Anglo-American even the town`school was segregated and bob`mum was from mexico but his coach,a person he really respected and admired was Anglo.Only among the athlets they mixed incident in the other parts they sticked together in their groups and prejudice ran deep in south Texas. That was was characterized his youth.I also learned about him that he was although he was unbelievable famouse and eveybody loved him, a shy guy and nobody really knew alot about his private life and his family. His attitude of not being selfish and not wanting to be talked about in public so much is what made him even more successful in his life and honored by tousands of people
